Tottenham are eyeing Eibar defender Florian Lejeune as a replacement for Kevin Wimmer, according to a report.

The Daily Mirror claim that Spurs are set to part ways with their 24-year-old centre-back in the summer, with the Austrian seeking more regular football.

It is understood that the north London club will turn to Lejeune to bolster the squad, who is plying his trade in La Liga with eight-placed Eibar.

The report details that Spurs and Arsenal are two of the clubs tracking the 25-year-old defender, who can also be used as a midfielder.

The Daily Mirror report reveals that he has a release clause of just £8.7million, which could make him a bargain signing in the next window.

Lejeune has been one of the standout performers for Eibar this season and been a regular in their starting line-up.

The French centre-back has made 28 appearances this campaign across all competitions, with three of them coming in La Liga.

He was previously on the books at Manchester City, but never made an appearance for the English club and joined Eibar for just £1.3million in the summer.

Spurs are believed to be looking for more defensive options in the upcoming window as Wimmer prepares to exit White Hart Lane.

The defender has been unable to force his way into the first-team this season and made just 10 appearances.

Football Insider verdict:

Spurs will certainly need to re-build their squad in the summer if they are to compete both domestically and in Europe, so a new defender is vital if Wimmer leaves. Wimmer has proved to be a solid member of the Spurs dressing room and stepped in well when required, but is not content with being a fringe player. He should be able to find himself a mid-table side in the Premier League if he wants to stay in England. Meanwhile, Maurico Pochettino is tracking a player impressing in La Liga, who is available at a bargain price. The prices of defenders are shooting up and Spurs would be held to ransom over a well-known English talent. Lejeune is proving himself in Spain’s top-flight and could be a good addition to the Spurs squad.
