Report: Tottenham braced for defender offer, player keen on move

By Dominic Toner

Crystal Palace are interested in signing Tottenham defender Ben Davies, according to a report.

The Express claim that Palace manager Sam Allardyce is eyeing a new left-back and has identified Spurs’ 23-year-old as a potential target.

The report details that Davies is keen to move away from White Hart Lane to experience more regular football as he is currently stuck behind Danny Rose in the pecking order.

It is understood that Chelsea have been interested in him in the past, but their interest has cooled over the last few weeks.

Spurs need to assess whether they have enough options in their current squad to allow Davies to leave the club.

Davies has made just 11 appearances this season across all competitions, but is regarded as a very consistent defender.

The left-back is stuck behind team-mate Rose in the pecking order and seems unlikely to overtake him in the near future.

The Wales international moved to White Hart Lane in 2014 from Swansea and has featured 67 times for Spurs.

Football Insider verdict:

Spurs currently have an extremely reliable defender in Davies in their squad and he has proven to be an excellent replacement during his time with the club. They are unlikely to find a better number two left-back and may be reluctant to sell Davies as a result. Mauricio Pochettino is also going to have to juggle a Premier League title bid and the Europea League this season, meaning the Davies is likely to get a good amount of game time. However, they do have versatile defenders Kevin Wimmer and Jan Vertonghen in their squad who could cover for Rose if required. Spurs should certainly demand a high transfer fee for Davies if they decide to sell as he is a proven Premier League defender.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club are eyeing a prolific goalscorer from the Bundesliga.
