Report: Tottenham eye swoop for Spain international, Pochettino first team ace could be part of deal

By Harry Sykes

Tottenham remain keen on signing Isco from Real Madrid, according to a report.

Spurs were strongly linked with a pursuit of the Spain international last summer as Mauricio Pochettino assessed options to strengthen the squad late in the window.

The Mirror claim Tottenham are “admirers” of Isco, who could form part of any deal that would take Dele Alli to the Bernabeu.

It is said that the White Hart Lane sensation is being eyed by Real in the summer window, when their transfer ban will have been served.

Real have raided Tottenham for Gareth Bale and Luka Modric in recent years, with the Welshman becoming the most expensive player in history when he joined for £86million in the summer of 2013.

Alli’s stunning emergence over last 18 months for Spurs and the England national team has also caught the eye of the Spanish giants.

He has scored braces in Tottenham’s last two matches to take his tally for the season to nine goals in 24 matches in all competitions, eight of which have come from 18 league encounters.

Tottenham boss Pochettino is a fan of Isco, 24, who has slipped down the Bernabeu pecking order since Zinedine Zidane was appointed manager.

Football Insider verdict:

Tottenham fans will be nervous at the prospect of Real Madrid sniffing around man-of-the-moment Alli. Most are agreed on two things; Alli is destined to be a star of European football for the next decade and chairman Daniel Levy can extract a mega fee for a prize Spurs asset. Not that any Tottenham fan would countenance the exit of Alli, who is emerging as just as key to the team’s fortunes as Gareth Bale was before his own move to Real Madrid. The 20-year-old is a different type of player – he does not possess Bale’s ability to carry the ball across half the pitch – but there are similarities in their technical excellence, big-match temperaments and capacity to turn matches in their team’s favour. Spurs must batten down the hatches and fend off interest in their new superstar.

In other Tottenham transfer news, the club have agreed the terms of a 21-year-old move in January.
