Tottenham fan favourite Mousa Dembele is set for a shock exit this summer as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to cull a handful of senior stars to fund a £100million spending spree, according to a report.
The Mirror claim on their website that the Spurs boss is looking to splash the stunning nine-figure fee on a pair of Lazio stars, with striker Ciro Immobile and midfielder Sergey Milinkovic-Savic the centre of his attentions going into the summer.
It is said that to sign both from the Italian side, it will take Tottenham in excess of £100million, and that the funds will have to be raised by selling the club’s current stars, with Danny Rose, Toby Alderweireld, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko and Dembele named as the five likely for the exit.
Of those, the Belgian midfielder will be the biggest shock, considering he has been a mainstay in the first team this season, with 38 appearances, but it is claimed the 30-year-old will have to be sold this summer to recoup the £15million spent on his capture.
Football Insider verdict
This report certainly makes it look as though Spurs are wanting to splash the cash this summer but fans will not be too happy about them having to sell their stars in order to fund it. Yes, Dembele’s exit is the only surprise of the names mentioned but if they cannot get the prices they are expecting for the ones they want to sell, then they could be forced into selling a more established first team regular. As for the proposed targets, there should certainly be some money left over from the sales and so the Lazio duo are a good start, but there must be more incomings if they are to improve the side and push for some silverware any time soon.
