Tottenham are interested in signing Genoa forward Giovanni Simeone and Schalke attacking midfielder Max Meyer during the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Mirror claims that the North London club will face competition in landing Simeone, 22, as fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace have also taken an interest in the youngster alongside Italian teams Torino and Fiorentina.
The Argentine enjoyed a fine debut campaign in Italy last season, notching up 13 goals in all competitions.
The newspaper reports that Spurs have still not made an official move for the youngster who is the son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.
The Mirror also claims that Tottenham are poised to step up their interest in Meyer this summer.
It is said that Spurs attempted to buy the 21-year-old last summer but their initial approach was turned down as the player was valued for more than £30million.
The German has reportedly refused to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga outfit and he has indicated that he could leave the club for a much cheaper price this summer.
This follows up from the story in the Sun which reported that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is ready to snap up the attacking midfielder for around £17.5million this summer.
Simeone’s current contract with Genoa runs out in 2021 whilst Mayer will available on a free transfer next summer.
Football Insider verdict
Tottenham supporters will surely be delighted that their club are finally trying to add new faces to the squad ahead of the new season. The North London club are the only team in the Premier League who have failed to make a summer signing. Pochettino has proven throughout his spell in England that he can get the best out of young talent and both Simeone and Mayer would benefit from working under the Argentine manager. Spurs must do all they can to secure the signature of Meyer as he has more experience playing on the international scene than Simeone. The youngster has made four senior caps for the Germany national team and he was involved in the Under-21 squad that lifted the European Championships this summer.
In other Tottenham transfer news, a Spurs player has jetted out on a private plane to hold transfer talks on a deal that is set to be completed in the coming hours.
