Report: Tottenham star travels back to city of former club after agreement made
Tottenham star Erik Lamela has made the most of an agreement made by manager Mauricio Pochettino by jetting back off to Rome for a weekend break, according to a report.
Football.London claim that the boss has given his senior stars who are not on international duty, which number just seven, a handful of days off to relax and take a break, with the majority of the club’s first team away with their countries.
The weekend off has seen Argentinian winger Lamela head back to Italy’s capital, having used to live in the city during his time at Serie A giants Roma prior to his move to north London.
Meanwhile Moussa Sissoko has also taken time away, travelling with his family, ahead of next weekend’s clash against Chelsea.
Football Insider verdict
It is not often in the life of a footballer that you get a break mid-season, and Pochettino’s kind gesture to allow them not only to have time off but to travel abroad will be well received by the handful of players who have remained over the international break. It would have felt like something of a ghost town in training with so few of the senior stars around, and there will only be so much preparation Pochettino and his coaching team can do with those remaining. It may also give the manager the chance to recharge his batteries after a busy campaign so far, and focus on sealing FA Cup success as well as a top four finish come the end of the season.
