Report: Two rising English stars head to Manchester United from PL club, 13 to follow on trial
By Harry Sykes
Manchester United have invited two rising English stars to their club for trials as they prepare to assess 15 boys from the Huddersfield youth ranks, according to a report.
The Mail claim United have moved quickly to snap up the best young players from the Premier League newcomers, who confirmed plans to shut their academy last Friday.
It is said that England Under-16 duo Rocco Fragapane and Raj Mahmood are among the most exciting young players invited to Carrington.
They are to be joined by a remarkable 13 other young guns, including Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City targets Harvey Rowe and Sam Murray.
United’s academy, which is run by the ‘Class of 92’ club legend Nicky Butt, is aiming to see off competition from their north-west rivals for the best of Huddersfield’s young talent.
The Yorkshire club’s players are particularly attractive because they can be signed without the normal compensation fee.
The club made the bold call to save £500,000 in annual running costs and downgrade their academy from category two status to category four, only keeping Under-23 and Under-18 squads.
In other Manchester United news, Ronald Koeman has claimed that a senior player in Jose Mourinho’s team was useless for a whole year.
