Report: West Ham to reignite summer bid for 24-year-old winger available for free, Everton also keen
By Will Butcher
West Ham are to reignite their failed summer attempt to pen the signature of Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal, according to a report.
The Daily Star claim in Wednesday’s paper edition (page 46) that the east London outfit attempted to sign the 24-year-old last summer, but were told no by the Ligue 1 giants.
It is believed that the Hammers will not be alone in their renewed pursuit of Ghezzal, as the Algerian star has attracted scouts of Premier League rivals Everton and Champions League semi-finalists Monaco.
Ghezzal is available on a free transfer this summer as his current contract with Lyon is set to expire in less than two months, despite shining in Bruno Genesio’s side this term.
He’s only scored two goals this season, but he has provided seven assists across 33 league and cup appearances.

Lyon’s number 11 continues to develop a reputation as one of the most inventive players in Ligue 1, after he scored 10 goals and supplied nine assists in the 2015-16 season.
Now, with his contract set to expire ahead of the summer transfer window, all three interested parties are set to do battle to pen his signature ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
Football Insider verdict:
Both West Ham and Everton are in need of improvement on the flanks. Slaven Bilic has seen his side falter following the loss of France international Dimitri Payet, while Robert Snodgrass, Sofiane Feghouli and Gokhan Tore have failed to provide any kind of solid form from out wide. The Toffees could also do with additions out wide, as duo Gerard Deulofeu and Aiden McGeady’s futures look in doubt as they remain out on loan. Enner Valencia has done little to earn a permanent move from the Hammers to Goodison Park, while Yannick Bolasie is set to remain sidelined until 2018. Bringing Ghezzal to the Premier League, then, should be at the forefront of either Bilic or Ronald Koeman’s transfer plans, as he continues to shine in France’s top tier.
In other West Ham transfer news, this Premier League 30-year-old has also been reportedly identified by the Hammers as a useful summer addition.
