Report: This is what it will cost for Rangers to land senior man

By Matt Farr

Aberdeen will demand a £1million fee from Rangers if they attempt to acquire Derek McInnes as their new manager, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun understand that Aberdeen are prepared to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of their senior man, and are hoping to fend off the advances of Rangers with their £1million demands.

SkyBet had earlier installed McInnes among the favourites to fill the vacant managerial post at Ibrox, following the dismissal of Mark Warburton on Friday.

The 45-year-old has been a huge hit since arriving at the Pittodrie Stadium in 2013, winning the Scottish League Cup in his debut campaign with the club.

He still has two more years left to run on his contract with Aberdeen, and Dons chairman Stewart Milne is desperate for him to continue his impressive work at the club.

Aberdeen are currently ahead of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, but by no means would a switch to Ibrox be a step down for McInnes.

Managing a club like Rangers is a monumental task, and many – like Warburton – have failed to handle the expectation.

However, the Ibrox chiefs firmly believe that McInnes would be a suitable choice to pick up the pieces following Warburton’s disastrous tenure, and could seek to bring him back to the club where he spent five years as a player.
