Tottenham to battle PL rivals in sensational swoop for multi-time CL winner – reports

Tottenham will face competition from Manchester United and Inter Milan for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, according to reports.

Spanish website Diario Gol report that 32-year-old is expected to leave the Bernabeu at the end of the season, with talkSPORT claiming that Spurs are in the running to sign him.

They say it would be a ‘sensational’ return to his former club.

Diario Gol claims Modric has told Madrid captain Sergio Ramos that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Modric joined Los Blancos from Spurs in 2012 and has enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Spanish club, winning three Champions League titles and one La Liga trophy.

A previous report from Diario Gol claimed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was willing to include Luka Modric as part of a swap deal to lure Tottenham striker Harry Kane to the Bernabeu.

If Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino could persuade Modric to return to north London it would be a sensational signing. By the time Modric left White Hart Lane in 2012 he had established himself as a firm fan favourite. He is arguably one of the best players to ever grace Tottenham’s midfield and he would no doubt be a welcome addition to the current Spurs side. However, his next destination is believed to be Inter Milan, who have reportedly already made contact with the player’s representatives. Spurs will also face competition for their former player from Premier League rivals Manchester United. It was United boss Jose Mourinho who brought Modric to the Bernabeu during his time in charge of Real Madrid and the Portuguese is said to remain a huge admirer of the player.
