Revealed: £42m Rangers transfer news – late double deal lined up
Rangers are working with a tight budget to complete multiple late signings because of their existing £42million transfer debt, Football Insider can reveal.
The Glasgow giants published their full 2022-23 financial accounts to Companies House earlier this month (11 January) revealing they still owe £42million in transfer payables.
Part of that debt will have been paid off by the Ibrox club between the June cut-off date and the start of the January window, but the majority is due in the summer.
As a result, Philippe Clement has had to work with a strict budget this month with loan deals for Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande the only business completed by the club so far.
However, Football Insider revealed on Monday (29 January) that Rangers are in advanced talks for Oscar Cortes with two additional signings lined up.
It is understood that Gers want a new left-back signed before Thursday’s deadline, although talks to sign Fluminense ace Jefte have hit a stumbling block.
Any transfer fees involved for the trio will likely be paid in instalments, adding to the club’s existing transfer debt.

Football Insider revealed in November that Rangers are owed £26million in transfer payments themselves.
However, that still leaves the club owing a net figure of £16million in payables having made an overall loss of £3million in 2022-23.
