Revealed: Arne Engels’ transfer intentions amid latest on Celtic exit

Celtic midfielder Arne Engels will not push for a move away from Parkhead any time soon, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old is a key part of the Bhoys’ title push in the Scottish Premiership, and he has little urgency to leave the club in the coming months, despite recent links for a potential return to the Bundesliga.

Football Insider revealed last week that Celtic have no intention of selling Engels amid interest from RB Leipzig, and sources now say that the Belgian is happy and content at Parkhead, whilst being fully focused on their title pursuit.

Martin O’Neill has leaned heavily on Engels in recent weeks, and the veteran boss has no intention of weakening his squad at all before the upcoming 2 February transfer deadline.

As a result, there is “no chance” that he will be sold in the coming days, as the Glasgow giants look set to have him tied down until at least the summer.

Celtic get security from Arne Engels stance

It has previously been suggested that Engels joined Celtic as a stepping stone to earn himself a move to the Premier League or another top European league.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case for him at the moment.

The former Augsburg man is a central figure in a Celtic side that still have plenty to play for in the second half of the season, as they also have a strong chance of progressing in the Europa League.

Engels was a club-record buy when the Bhoys shelled out £11million to sign him in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign, and they will be hopeful of potentially netting a significant profit on him in future, given that he is under contract until 2028.

The fact that he has no intention of forcing a move away from Celtic Park in the coming days provides security for O’Neill and Co., as they know that the playmaker’s head is not likely to be turned.

Martin O’Neill eyes last-minute striker deal

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Celtic have made contact with Bodo/Glimt over a move for their striker Kasper Hogh.

The Bhoys have already added Tomas Cvancara to their attacking ranks this winter, but O’Neill has now got his eyes on making a last-minute move for the Norwegian.

Hogh netted 17 league goals from 28 games in the Eliteserien’s 2025 season, and even netted an impressive double to help down Manchester City in the Champions League last week.

Celtic have had strikers as their top priority since the beginning of the January window, and they are now pushing hard to get another through the door in the final days before the deadline.
