Liverpool are interested in signing £40million Arsenal duo Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wojciech Szczesny this summer, Football Insider sources understand.

The youthful pair are on the radar of the Merseysiders after slipping down the pecking order at Emirates Stadium.

The futures of Oxlade-Chamberlain, 22, and Szczesny, 25, have come under the microscope as they prepare to enter the final two years of their contracts.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is a prime target of Manchester City but a source close to the situation has told Football Insider that Liverpool , Chelsea and Manchester United have also asked to be kept informed about his situation.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is also in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer despite sanctioning a lucrative new five-and-a-half-year contract for Simon Mignolet in January.

Szczesny has spent the season on loan at Roma after Petr Cech joined Arsenal from Chelsea last summer to take the No1 spot at Emirates Stadium.

The Pole is rated in the £10million bracket by Arsenal and the Londoners could cash in on him before he enters the final two years of his current deal.

As revealed by Football Insider last month, the Gunners are ready to begin negotiations with Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose current agreement expires in the summer of 2018.

But the 22-year-old is seeking a 200 per cent pay rise on his current £52,000-a-week wages that will lift him on a par with the likes of Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Laurent Koscielny at Emirates Stadium.

Manager Arsene Wenger retains full faith in the 22-year-old, who is rated in the £30million bracket, and does not want to cash in on him in the summer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain spent much of the season on the fringes of the Arsenal team before suffering a knee injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

Red alert: Oxlade-Chamberlain is being monitored by Liverpool

Oxlade-Chamberlain did not score a single Premier League goal in 2015 and in 33 matches in all competitions this season, he has scored just two goals and supplied two assists, a poor return for a player who predominantly plays on the flanks.

Sky TV pundit Graeme Souness questioned recently whether Oxlade-Chamberlain takes football seriously enough and says he should be “banging down” Wenger’s door when he is not in the team.

In other Liverpool transfer news, Aston Villa are interested in signing Jerome Sinclair when his Anfield contract expires in the summer.
