Revealed: Aston Villa agree Monchi deal after breakthrough – two new signings close
Aston Villa have agreed terms with Monchi to become their sporting director – and two more signings are close, sources have told Football Insider.
The Midlands giants have been in negotiations about Monchi’s £1.7million release clause at his current club Sevilla and he is set to complete a move to the Premier League club imminently.
The deal has been pushed through by Unai Emery, who worked with his countryman at Sevilla when he was their manager from 2013-2016.
Monchi has a three-month notice period in his contract but Villa are confident that will be waived by the Spanish club in return for the release clause being paid.
The Premier League club have turned their attention to reuniting Emery with Monchi after Barcelona’s Mateu Alemany rejected a move to Villa Park.
Emery has been given great freedom to reshape Villa after leading the club into Europe for the first time in 13 years since replacing Steven Gerrard last November.
Emery has already been working with Villa chiefs on signing multiple players, with talks advanced over a deal for Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as revealed by Football Insider on Monday.
The Midlands outfit are also closing in on what sources say is a big-name signing from Spain.
Villa announced on Saturday they have reached an agreement to sign Tielemans and he will join on 1st July when his Leicester City contract expires.

It heralds the start of what is expected to be another major refurbishment of the senior squad this summer.
Emery has been told he will be backed by the club’s ambitious owners NSWE, led by Nassef Sawiris, with more than £150million expected to be spent on new players.
