Revealed: Brendan Rodgers has ‘good chance’ of landing Tottenham manager’s job

Brendan Rodgers has a “good chance” of landing the Tottenham job this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Londoners are carrying out an exhaustive managerial process as they spend the coming weeks working on securing a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte.

One manager that certainly interest Spurs chiefs is Rodgers, 50, and contact is being made with him as the club sound out potential candidates.

His departure from Leicester City rules out needing to pay a multi-million pound compensation clause, something Tottenham are keen to avoid after shelling out tens of millions on such costs in recent years.

Rodgers’ CV that includes successful spells at Liverpool, Celtic, Leicester and Swansea, as well as a track record of building teams and developing players, appeals to Tottenham.

The northern Irishman is also said to have mellowed in recent years and he would not be confrontational with the board.

That would suit chairman Daniel Levy, still bruised from the chaos caused by Antonio Conte, who departed a week after an astonishing rant at the club’s players and hierarchy.

Intriguingly, Rodgers has been admired for a long time by Levy, stretching back to his Swansea days a decade ago.

Ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann is Spurs’ top target but there are growing whispers he has his eye on a club better placed for instant success.

The availability of the Chelsea job threatens to throw a major spanner in the works for Tottenham’s hopes of luring the 35-year-old German.

Conte’s former assistant Cristian Stellini has been placed in caretaker charge for the remainder of the season with Ryan Mason as his number two.

He oversaw a 2-1 Premier League win over Brighton on Saturday that kept Spurs in the running for a Champions League spot – they are fifth and three points behind Man United.
