Revealed: Celtic land £3.3m windfall & another £15m is on the way
Celtic will receive £3.35million in prize money for winning their ninth consecutive SPL title.
But that is small change compared to the anticipated £15m that Scotland’s dominant force are set to pocket from their European adventures in the recently-terminated season.
The £25m pot paid to the 12 SPL clubs for 2019-20 will see Celtic net 13 per cent of the kitty and £1m more than second-placed Rangers.
Even the Hoops’ figure pales in comparison with the astronomical sums earned down south, where the Premier League’s bottom club can earn nearly £100m a season from the broadcasting deals.
Celtic can’t compete with the riches of the English elite but they declared revenues of £83.4m in 2018-19, £30m more than rivals Rangers over the same period.
This season hasn’t been quite as lucrative as the Hoops board would have liked, due to their failure to reach the Champions League group stages for a second consecutive season.
But the Europa League has provided some significant financial compensation despite failing to go beyond the first knockout stage.
Celtic are expected to announce revenues of around £15m from their European campaign this season.
This was accumulated from £2.6m from their group stage allocation, £2.1m from performances across six group fixtures as well as £1m for progressing through three Champions League qualification rounds over the summer.
The Hoops have also secured £2.1m from their Uefa co-efficient ranking.
By qualifying for the knockout stages, Celtic landed a £900,000 bonus as well as a further bonus of £850,000 for topping their group against Rennes, Lazio and Cluj.
In addition, Celtic sources have told Football Insider that the club expect to pocket a further £5m from the Scottish clubs’ share of the TV pool as well as matchday, commercial and merchandise income.
