Revealed: Celtic turn attention to luring Maresca from Man City – sources

Celtic keeping tabs on Man City assistant coach Enzo Maresca in case current boss Ange Postecoglou is lured away this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The Australian, 57, is on the radar of multiple Premier League sides – including Tottenham and Wolves.

Celtic fear Postecoglou could leave this summer and are assessing the market for potential replacements.

One well-regarded coach on their radar is Pep Guardiola’s Man City assistant Maresca.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (22 May) that the 43-year-old Italian turned down an offer from newly-relegated Southampton to remain at the newly-crowned Premier League champions.

Celtic are well aware of Maresca’s qualities due to their behind-the-scenes links with Man City.

The Hoops’ recruitment chief Mark Lawwell worked at the Etihad Stadium prior to moving to Glasgow to take the role last year (2022).

Maresca has had an esteemed career so far as an assistant boss, working at City, West Ham and Sevilla – but has had just one job in senior management.

He left Man City to take the Parma job in 2021 but was sacked after just six months in the role after winning four of 14 games at the helm.

Celtic are aware of increasing interest in Postecoglou after his back-to-back title triumphs at the club since arriving in 2021.

The former Australia boss is only on a 12-month rolling contract at Parkhead and is yet to commit to a longer-term deal.

Celtic and Postecoglou are just one win away from securing a famous domestic treble ahead of next week’s Scottish Cup final (3 June) against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Hoops have won 81 of their 111 matches (just below 73%) under the Australian’s stewardship.
