Revealed: Chelsea smash record – paperwork confirms the news
The wage bill at Chelsea has grown to a club record £404million per season, Football Insider can reveal.
It is likely to shrink their budget for both January and the summer transfer window and could complicate deals for the likes of Evan Ferguson or Viktor Gyokeres.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Ferguson is part of a four-man striker shortlist for Chelsea.
Deloitte published their 2024 Football Money League this week, revealing the overall revenues and wage bills of the highest-earning European clubs.
Chelsea ranked ninth on the list with a revenue of £513million in 2023 – a four per cent increase from 2022.
However, Chelsea’s wage bill has grown drastically from £340million to £404million – a new club record.
The Blues are now spending a staggering 79 percent of their annual revenue on wages.
Deloitte’s figures rank Chelsea second in the Premier League in terms of their wage bill with only Man City spending more with £424million.
Uefa are currently in the process of introducing new Financial Sustainability rules that will see club spending capped at just 70 percent of overall revenue.

Therefore, Chelsea are under pressure to lower their wage bill over the next few transfer windows in order to comply with Uefa’s new regulations.
Chelsea’s club-record wage bill means the Londoners are also expected to announce significant operating losses when their 2022-23 accounts are made public.
