Revealed: Crystal Palace’s January transfer plan amid Oliver Glasner demands

Crystal Palace have enjoyed a strong start to the season so far and remain competitive in all three competitions they have entered so far.

Oliver Glasner’s side drew 0-0 with rivals Brighton last time out, extending their unbeaten run at home against the Seagulls which stretches back to 2018.

However, the Eagles looked leggy in the second half, with their busy European and domestic schedules seemingly beginning to catch up with the players.

Marc Guehi was ruled out of the Brighton clash with bruising on his ankle, picked up against AZ Alkmaar, while Maxence Lacroix admitted he was tired but happy to play.

As a result, Glasner has spoken out confessing he would like to add more players to his squad in January to enable further rotation and allow him to rest key players.

Crystal Palace plan to back Oliver Glasner in January

Football Insider revealed in August that Glasner was left frustrated at Crystal Palace as a result of their slow start to the summer transfer window.

However, they are now keen to make up for their difficult summer by backing the manager with new players to bolster his squad in the mid-season window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Palace will have to be active if they want to win more silverware.

Crystal Palace want to bring players in when the window opens,” he told Football Insider.

“The manager has been clear that he needs players in January, because their fixture congestion isn’t getting any easier and they want to stay competitive.

“It’s one of the fears I had for Palace going into this season, because there is so much to admire about the way they have done things and the success they’ve had.

“But in the back of mind, there were always concerns about how they’d cope with a Thursday-Sunday schedule and looking to compete in Europe.

“You need a deep squad so that you can rotate and rest players, the likes of Marc Guehi or Ismaila Sarr who are going to be needed for the whole season.

“Otherwise you risk burning them out or picking up injuries and then things start to go wrong.

“Guehi missed the game against Brighton, and you could tell the players were tired.

“So I expect Palace will already be looking at what they can do when the window opens, areas they need to strengthen and players who are available.

“The manager has made it no secret that he wants options, and it’s now up to the club to give him those, and I expect they will be willing to do so.”

The Eagles are also determined to keep hold of their best players so as not to weaken the squad, as Football Insider revealed Crystal Palace will not sell Adam Wharton in January.

Update on Glasner’s future at Crystal Palace

Football Insider revealed last month that Palace will do everything in their power to keep Glasner at Selhurst Park despite reports of tension behind the scenes.

Palace chairman Steve Parish confirmed that early stages of contract talks have taken place, but explained their visions need to be aligned to reach an agreement. [talkSPORT]

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 30 September that Crystal Palace must match Glasner’s ambitions if they want him to agree a new contract.

Brown told Football Insider on 25 September that Crystal Palace are making plans to keep Glasner and hope they can extend his stay in South London.

However, following the chairman’s confession, the Eagles will have to prove they can match his ambitions both on and off the pitch to keep him in South London.
