Revealed: How Chelsea plan to complete Mike Maignan signing

Chelsea have two alternative ways to complete the signing of Mike Maignan from AC Milan, sources have told Football Insider.

Maignan was linked with a move to Chelsea during the most recent transfer window, but the deal ultimately fell through.

The Frenchman’s contract with AC Milan expires at the end of the season, which means that he can agree a pre-contract deal with Enzo Maresca’s side in January.

However, sources say that the Italian giants may prefer to cash in on their shot-stopper when the window reopens, which would allow Maignan to complete an immediate move to London.

Chelsea’s Mike Maignan pursuit depends on AC Milan title challenge

After Robert Sanchez’s blunder against Manchester United on Saturday (20 September), Chelsea will likely step up their attempts to replace him in January.

However, their chances of bringing Maignan in for the second half of the season will be dramatically weakened if AC Milan’s good form continues.

The Italian giants sit third in Serie A, three points behind Napoli at the top of the table after four games of the new campaign.

Sources say that Milan will be reluctant to agree to the immediate sale of Maignan when the window reopens, if they are still in with a chance of winning the title.

Raheem Sterling could be on way out, but Celtic move reaches stalemate

Meanwhile, Celtic can only sign Raheem Sterling from Chelsea if they can cover his eye-watering wages, sources have told Football Insider.

The ex-Manchester City and Liverpool winger is reportedly on £350,000 per week at Stamford Bridge, which put off several clubs during the summer window.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 20 September that Sterling could head to Celtic to be reunited with former manager Brendan Rodgers.

However, sources say that the Hoops are not in the financial position to be able to cover the former England international’s wages.
