Revealed: How Ivan Toney feels about joining Tottenham in January

Tottenham remain intrigued by the prospect of Ivan Toney joining the club to bolster their attacking options.

The former Brentford man is being chased by Premier League clubs who are in desperate need of a goal-hungry forward.

Sources told Football Insider that Everton are interested in signing Toney in January given the disappointing output from Beto and Thierno Barry.

The Toffees are not the only club in the market for his services with Man United also in pursuit of Toney due to summer signing Benjamin Sesko‘s shortcomings.

Yet, Thomas Frank is keen on a reunion with his ex-star striker ahead of a busy 2025-26 multi-competition campaign for the Lilywhites.

Toney content with Al-Ahli as fading England World Cup prospects to potentially play into Tottenham’s hands

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the Englishman looks unlikely to leave the Middle East after just two seasons with Al-Ahli.

Adding to the unlikelihood of signing the forward, sources told Football Insider that Toney’s eye-watering wages will likely prevent any deal with Tottenham.

However, having not been selected for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad since June, a return to the Premier League must be considered by the 29-year-old if he wants to go to the World Cup.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I think Toney‘s quite happy with life out there as well in the Middle East.

“He’s been a big success for Al-Ahli, 39 goals and seven assists in 56 appearances, that’s pretty good going by anybody’s standards.

“Al-Ahli have no real desire of letting their top goalscorer leave in January as well as they want to try and win the Saudi Pro League title.

“It looks a difficult deal to do for so many reasons. Al-Ahli don’t really want to lose Toney and Toney’s not pushing for a move just yet either, despite maybe hoping to boost his chances of being in that England squad for next summer’s World Cup.

“Tottenham would be a good fit because of the Thomas Frank situation with Ivan Toney, but you’ve got to remember Tottenham have got a lot of attacking options in that team as well.

“Solanke out injured at the minute, they’ll be hoping they can get him back. Kolo Muani’s just returned from injury as well and then they’ve got Richarlison and Mathys Tel as well.

“They are quite well stocked in that area of the team. If maybe one of those players was to leave in January, then that might increase the likelihood of Tottenham bringing in a new striker in January.”

Tottenham consider Samu Aghehowa as ideal man to spearhead the frontline

With the number 17 unlikely to head to north London, Spurs will be considering alternative striker options.

Sources told Football Insider that Tottenham are monitoring Porto’s Samu Aghehowa.

The Spaniard has netted six times in 10 matches for the Portuguese side and his reported price tag of £86million reflects his superb quality.

At just 21-years-old, the Lilywhites would be acquiring a forward with a longer career ahead of him than Toney who is also eyeing up a starting spot at the 2026 World Cup next summer.
