Revealed: How many signings Man United are expected to make before transfer window slams shut tonight

Manchester United have been pushing to strengthen their squad throughout the January transfer window.

The Red Devils have immediately turned a corner under the guidance of interim manager Michael Carrick, and they are currently occupying a Champions League qualification place.

Former Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Carrick could get the United job permanently if he secures a spot in Europe’s premier club competition for next term.

The 44-year-old has been keen to bring fresh faces into his squad in a bid to support that aim for the club in the second half of the season, but time is rapidly running out before Monday night’s 7pm deadline.

Man United set for quiet deadline day

Man United made a late attempt to hijack Jeremy Jacquet’s move to Liverpool in recent days, but their attempts to land the Frenchman were ultimately unsuccessful.

That has been the story of the window so far for the Old Trafford outfit, and the latest indication suggests that won’t change at all in the final hours of the window.

Dealdine day in January is known for being one of the busiest days of the year for Premier League clubs, but that won’t be the case for United this time around.

Carrick and Co. are yet to welcome a new signing so far this winter, and there are not likely to be any new arrivals on deadline day either, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

The only business that the club have completed all window has been the loan exits of youngsters Toby Collyer, Harry Amass and Ethan Wheatley.

Old Trafford chief briefly consider late move for Cole Palmer

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider on deadline day that United do not have the funds to move for Cole Palmer at the moment, despite recent links with the England star.

Palmer has struggled to find form amid an injury-hit campaign at Chelsea so far, and that has seen speculation rise in the final days of the window that a move elsewhere could be on the cards.

However, Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Chelsea would only accept a Premier League record fee to let Palmer leave Stamford Bridge, with Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool currently holding that record at £125million.

United’s ambition has been made clear once again by the surprise suggestions, but it has quickly become clear that they simply do not have the finances to make that pursuit a reality.
