Revealed: How Marc Guehi reveal has affected Oliver Glasner’s future at Crystal Palace

Marc Guehi’s decision to leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season will have no impact on Oliver Glasner’s future at the club, sources have told Football Insider.

The England international has informed the Eagles that he is not signing a new deal and will depart on a free next summer.

Guehi came close to joining Liverpool on deadline day of the summer transfer window, but Palace blocked the move at the last moment.

Glasner threatened to quit if his captain was sold without replacement, and the transfer was eventually cancelled.

Oliver Glasner’s future still in the balance

Sources say that Guehi’s recent reveal will not have a direct influence on Glasner’s contract negotiations with Crystal Palace.

It will be a big blow for the Eagles to lose the 25-year-old, but after his move in the summer fell through, it was always expected that he wouldn’t sign a new deal.

Glasner’s contract at Palace expires at the end of this season, and he has been linked with the likes of Manchester United in recent weeks.

There are ongoing discussions between the club and the Austrian around his future at the club, with Steve Parish desperate to tie him down to a long-term deal.

Jean-Philippe Mateta’s stance on Crystal Palace exit

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are reportedly continuing plans to keep Jean-Philippe Mateta, with a new deal likely to be offered.

The French forward is believed to be happy at Selhurst Park and content to sign a contract extension.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Palace’s recent success has shown the striker what he can achieve there.

Mateta scored against Iceland on his first start for France, and there have been suggestions that he could make a step up at club level.
