Revealed: How much compensation Chelsea have been forced to pay managers under Todd Boehly
Chelsea have decided to part ways with Enzo Maresca after his relationship soured with the club’s board in recent weeks.
It was confirmed on Thursday (1 January) Maresca has left Chelsea after his position was deemed untenable.
Maresca publicly criticised Chelsea’s board last month after claiming he didn’t feel supported, leading to questions around his future at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian boss has become the fourth manager to leave the London giants since BlueCo – the ownership group spearheaded by Todd Boehly – took over the club from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
The decision was made after Chelsea have won just one of their past seven Premier League games, while Maresca’s relationship with the club’s hierarchy is also believed to have been a key factor behind his departure.

How much compensation will Chelsea pay Enzo Maresca?
Maresca joined Chelsea from Leicester City in June 2024 after leading the Foxes to promotion back to the Premier League.
Fabrizio Romano reported at the time of Maresca’s appointment he would be earning €5million (£4.4m) at Stamford Bridge, with his contract running until June 2029.
Given the 45-year-old still had three-and-a-half years left to run on his Chelsea deal, it means he could be entitled to just over £15m in compensation.
However, sources have told Football Insider the fee is likely to be between £5-10m due to the circumstances around his departure.

Maresca won the Conference League and the Club World Cup in his only full season at Stamford Bridge, while he led Chelsea back into the Champions League after securing a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
Which managers have been sacked by Chelsea under BlueCo?
Thomas Tuchel was the first Chelsea manager to be relieved of his duties in the BlueCo era.
The German manager, who won the Champions League with the Blues in 2021, was paid £13m in compensation following his departure in September 2022.
Tuchel was replaced by Graham Potter, but his time at Stamford Bridge proved to be short-lived after he was fired in April 2023.
Chelsea also paid £13m to sack Potter following his disappointing spell in west London.
That led to the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino, who spent a season in charge of the Blues before he was relieved of his duties in May 2024.
The Argentine boss landed a £10m payout for his troubles.
That means Chelsea have paid out between £41-46m in compensation to managers over the past three-and-a-half years depending on Maresca’s fee.

Liam Rosenior has emerged as the favourite to replace Maresca, with the 41-year-old currently operating as the manager of Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.
The French club make up part of BlueCo’s multi-club model, providing Stamford Bridge chiefs with a clear understanding of Rosenior’s capabilities.
