Revealed: Leeds three-signing plan to secure instant promotion – sources

Leeds United have identified three priority positions as they plot a busy summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Whites will look to add new faces at left-back, central midfield and in attack.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Leeds feel they will need to strengthen those positions in order to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

The Yorkshire giants confirmed on Friday (2 June) that manager Sam Allardyce will not see his contract renewed after taking charge of the final four games of the season.

But it is believed that reinforcements at left-back, central midfield and attack will be on the agenda regardless of who comes in to replace the 68-year-old.

The Elland Road club’s relegation was confirmed on the final day of the 2022-23 campaign (28 May) following a 4-1 loss at home against Tottenham.

They return to the second tier for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign – when they won the league under the stewardship of Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds’ relegation comes despite a mammoth reported transfer outlay of over £125million across both windows in the 2022-23 season.

The Whites’ current left-back options are Junior Firpo and January signing Max Wober.

Central midfielder Weston McKennie has returned to Juventus after an unsuccessful loan spell, while Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson have already been linked with summer exits.

£35.5million striker Georginio Rutter has failed to make an impact since joining in January – while long-serving hitman Patrick Bamford continues to struggle for fitness.

Leeds

Leeds will be joined by Leicester and Southampton in the Championship next season after the trio dropped down from the Premier League.

The Whites will learn their first opponents for the 2023-24 campaign on 22 June.
