Revealed: Liverpool star Calvin Ramsay agrees Preston deal after breakthrough – sources

Preston North End have agreed a deal to sign Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay, sources have told Football Insider.

The Championship clubs are finalising the capture of the right-back, 19, on a season-long loan after a breakthrough in talks with the Merseyside giants.

Ramsay is now set to head to Preston to complete the formalities of the move after getting the green light from manager Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have decided to accept Preston’s loan offer for Ramsay following a disjointed debut campaign interrupted by knee surgery.

Klopp believes the youngster’s development will be best served by playing regularly in the English second tier.

He joined Liverpool in the summer of 2022 from Aberdeen in an initial £4m deal that could rise to over £6.5m with add-ons.

Ramsay was signed as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deputy but only ended up making two senior appearances in his first season – one in the Champions League and one in the League Cup.

Klopp preferred to use experienced men like James Milner and Joe Gomez at right-back when Alexander-Arnold was rested or injured.

The move to Ramsay is a logical one given the level they play at and the relationship between Liverpool ad Preston.

Sepp van den Berg spent nearly 18 months on loan there until last summer, and Preston are set to allow Liverpool to host a pre-season friendly at their Deepdale Stadium, which would mean pushing back their first home game of the season.

At Aberdeen, Ramsay won the SWFA’s young player of the season award in his breakthrough campaign before his move to Anfield.
