Revealed: Major update on Celtic signing Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher

Liverpool are not willing to allow reported Celtic target Caoimhin Kelleher to leave the club in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hoops have again been widely linked with a potential swoop for the 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (15 January) that Celtic still want a goalkeeper with current number one Joe Hart out of contract at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

However, it is believed a deal for a new shot-stopper may have to wait until the summer window.

Meanwhile, a new left-back and forward are also on the agenda for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Kelleher is seen as important to the squad by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp – who is reluctant to let him leave Anfield this month despite his lack of first-team action.

The Cork-born ace has turned out 11 times across all competitions this season, conceding 14 goals and keeping two clean sheets.

He stepped into the squad to replace an injured Alisson for two Premier League games this season and kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 defeat of Sheffield United.

Kelleher is under contract with the Merseysiders until June 2026 after penning his most recent extension in 2021.

The right-footer has made 32 total appearances for Liverpool since coming through the ranks at the club, with most of those appearances coming in cup competitions.

Spanish shot-stopper Adrian remains on the books at Anfield but has not made a single appearance this term.

Celtic

Celtic sit top of the Scottish Premiership with 54 points – eight more than bitter rivals Rangers.

Meanwhile, Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League after 20 games and are two points clear of Man City.

In other news, Celtic ace “could leave this month” after new development.
