Revealed: Major update on Newcastle summer striker signing plan
Newcastle United are not planning to sign a striker in the upcoming summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that Magpies boss Eddie Howe is happy with his current strike force despite the added challenge of Champions League football in the 2023-24 campaign.
Sources told Football Insider on Wednesday (31 May) that Newcastle are ready to sit down with striker Callum Wilson to discuss a potential contract extension this summer.
The England international’s current deal is set to expire in just over 12 months’ time.
Wilson scored 18 goals and contributed five assists in 31 top-flight appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Howe is a “big fan” of the striker – and will place his faith in him once again despite the huge funds at his disposal in the transfer market.
The pair also worked together at Bournemouth and Wilson has now scored 89 goals in 234 games under the 45-year-old’s stewardship.
Newcastle and Howe also have Alexander Isak in their ranks – with the Sweden international catching the eye in his first season in English football.
The former Real Sociedad ace cost the Magpies a reported club-record £63million last summer (2022) and contributed 11 goals and two assists in 29 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.
In the final weeks of the season, Isak played on the left side of a three-pronged attack as Howe attempted to fit both strikers into his system.

Newcastle have begun work on their summer transfer business in other areas of the squad.
Football Insider revealed on 29 May that Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney is set to make a final decision on joining the Magpies in the coming weeks.
