Revealed: Major update on Thiago Alcantara potentially quitting Liverpool
A potential summer exit for Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara has been put on ice, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the Merseysiders are keen to keep hold of the 32-year-old as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho close in on respective exits to Saudi Arabian clubs.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 July) that Liverpool expect to lose both stars this week for a combined fee of around £50million – with Henderson and Fabinho now completing the formalities of their transfers.
Therefore, Jurgen Klopp’s side would be left incredibly short if Thiago was to join the midfield exodus this summer.
As with Fabinho and Henderson, Saudi Pro League sides are keen to add the Spain international to their ambitious footballing project.
Barcelona have also made contact to express their interest in Thiago, but it is believed they are unlikely to be able to afford a transfer fee to bring him back to the club.
Liverpool have already lost James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the end of their contracts last month.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been drafted in as part of the much-anticipated rebuild at Anfield.
Thiago managed 28 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign – but started in just 21 of those outings.
The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona ace has struggled for fitness since arriving at Anfield in 2020.
His contract, which nets him a reported wage of £200,000-a-week, is set to expire in June 2024.

Liverpool have begun exploring their next moves in the midfield area with exits for Henderson and Fabinho well advanced.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 July) that Liverpool have shortlisted Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure as a potential summer arrival.
