Revealed: Major update on Virgil van Dijk quitting Liverpool as new quotes emerge

Liverpool chiefs are keen to keep captain Virgil van Dijk at the club past this summer despite the huge imminent changes at Anfield, sources have told Football Insider.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has recently announced he will leave the club at the end of this season, with his entire backroom and coaching staff set to follow suit.

Van Dijk, 32, has already spoken out about the bombshell news, revealing that he is unsure about his future at Liverpool post-Klopp.

“The club will have a big job on their hands,” said Van Dijk. “I’m very curious which direction that will go in, but when that will be announced we will see our situation.”

However, it is believed club chiefs are keen to keep star men like the Netherlands defender and Mohamed Salah despite their ages and strong links to Klopp.

Sources say any new manager could choose to keep the core of the Reds squad in situ for at least another year.

Klopp played a big part in Van Dijk’s decision to leave Southampton for Liverpool for a reported £75million in 2018.

Since then, he has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and more as a key man on Merseyside.

The 32-year-old is under contract at Anfield until June 2025.

He is the captain of Klopp’s side as they chase success in the Premier League once again in the 2023-24 campaign.
