Revealed: Man City turn attention to signing Dani Olmo – sources

Man City could firm up long-term interest in RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo as they look to replace outgoing star Riyad Mahrez, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 July) that Pep Guardiola and his recruitment staff will be given funds to replace Mahrez in the summer window.

The Algeria international is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli after agreeing terms on a two-year deal worth £43million per season in wages.

City were desperate to keep Mahrez at the Etihad Stadium – meaning his exit will now come as a massive blow to Guardiola and his treble-winning squad.

Cole Palmer has also been widely linked with a loan exit from the club this summer, a move which could leave the Premier League champions short in wide areas.

It is believed Man City could now swoop for Olmo – who has long been admired by Guardiola and club chiefs.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Leipzig are under “no pressure” to sell the Spain international this summer.

The Bundesliga club have already brought in big-money fees by selling Dominik Szoboszlai and Christopher Nkunku to Liverpool and Chelsea respectively this summer.

Olmo notched five goals and 11 assists across 31 appearances in all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.

The 25-year-old has racked up 55 goals and 57 assists in 247 total club outings since making his breakthrough for Dinamo Zagreb in 2015.

He signed a bumper contract extension at Leipzig in June, keeping him at the club until June 2027.

The versatile attacker is a regular for the Spanish national side and has notched six goals in 31 caps.
