Revealed: Man United chief earned £2.5m+ salary – now forced out by Ratcliffe

Richard Arnold’s salary as Man United CEO increased to over £2.5million last season, Football Insider can reveal.

United’s financial accounts from the 2022-23 season reveal that the 53-year-old was the highest-paid director at Old Trafford last season.

Arnold pocketed a pay rise of over £600,000 from the 2021-22 campaign when his salary was £1.9million.

However, it was announced on Thursday (22 February) that Arnold has officially resigned.

He initially stepped down from his role as CEO in November in what was the first of many changes in anticipation of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3billion minority investment.

United have since hired ex-Man City chief Omar Berrada in a Chief Executive position and Arnold has now departed the club completely.

INEOS co-owner John Reece has taken Arnold’s place on the board at Old Trafford.

Arnold’s salary at United was close to the club-record £2.9million paid out to former CEO Ed Woodward in 2021.

Ratcliffe has made several changes to United’s behind-the-scenes structure since taking sporting control of the club, with directors John Murtough and Darren Fletcher also at risk of leaving.

On top of changes to United’s senior hierarchy, Football Insider first revealed in December that Ratcliffe has given the order to cut over 100 jobs at Old Trafford.
