Revealed: Man United smash surprise transfer record as documents filed

Man United owe other clubs a record-breaking £364million in transfer instalments, Football Insider can reveal.

The Red Devils published their first-quarter financial results on Wednesday (17 January) that revealed record revenues of £157million.

It marked an increase of £14million from their previous Q1 results in 2023.

However, the Manchester club still made a net loss of £25.8million for the start of the 2023-24 financial year.

The documents also revealed that United now owe a record-breaking £364million to other clubs in the form of transfer payables.

Erik ten Hag added five new players to his United squad over the summer for a total of £179million.

It includes the £72million spent on Rasmus Hojlund, £60million on Mason Mount and £47million on Andre Onana.

While part of those fees are likely to have been paid up front, the remaining costs will be spread over the length of their contracts.

United’s transfer oweables sat at £276million in June 2023, meaning the club have added £88million to their transfer debt in the past seven months.

The documents also state that £203million of United’s transfer debt is not due for over a year.

United’s transfer sales have not matched their spending with the Red Devils making just £29million in the summer through the exit of Fred, Dean Henderson and Anthony Elanga.
