Revealed: Man United’s chances of completing Morten Hjulmand deal in January
Manchester United will find it incredibly hard to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulmand in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Hjulmand has been linked with a move to Man United in recent weeks, with the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham also interested.
However, sources say that Sporting are desperate to keep hold of their captain until the end of the season.
The Portuguese side are on track to reach the knockout phase of the Champions League, as well challenging for the league title domestically, and see Hjulmand as imperative to their success.

Man United have links with Morten Hjulmand
Man United do have an advantage in the race for Hjulmand, due to his links with manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim worked with the Sporting captain while he was at the Portuguese club, and was actually the one who signed him from Lecce in the summer of 2023.
The Red Devils will hope that the 40-year-old’s relationship with Hjulmand will convince him to push through a move to Old Trafford.
It is no secret that Man United are looking to sign a midfielder, with the Dane joining the likes of Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Elliot Anderson on the Red Devils’ shortlist.
Man United to replace departing midfielder
Meanwhile, Man United are not planning to trigger the extension option in Casemiro’s contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The Brazilian currently has a key role in Amorim’s midfield and has turned around his career at the club after appearing set for the exit door in each of the previous two windows.
Casemiro’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and the Manchester side are looking to trim their overall wage bill, which could see him depart the club.
Hjulmand could be an option to replace the former Real Madrid man, if he is to leave in the summer.
