Revealed: Newcastle slap £100m price tag on Bruno Guimaraes
Newcastle are confident of tying £100million-rated midfield star Bruno Guimaraes down to a new long-term deal despite interest from Barcelona, sources have told Football Insider.
This site revealed on Tuesday (30 May) that talks are ongoing between club and player – with the process now expected to accelerate after the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign.
However, it is believed that Barcelona have a concrete interest in prising Guimaraes away from St James’ Park.
A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Newcastle will demand a fee of around £100million for the Brazil international.
It is believed that Barcelona’s financial difficulties mean a deal of that magnitude will be almost impossible for the Catalan giants to sanction.
Eddie Howe’s side brought Guimaraes to Tyneside in January 2022 for a reported fee of £40million.
The Magpies beat off strong competition from Arsenal to sign the Lyon star.
The Brazilian was key to helping Newcastle achieve a top-four finish in the 2022-23 season, making 40 appearances across all competitions and contributing five goals and five assists.
According to FBRef, Guimaraes currently earns £120,000-a-week on his Magpies contract – which runs until June 2026.
Nevertheless, Newcastle are keen to reward his progress and fend off interest from Europe’s elite clubs by handing him a bumper new deal.

The Magpies will enter the Champions League at the group stage in September, which will be their first appearance in the competition since the 2002-03 campaign.
Howe and his transfer chiefs have already begun work on their summer business, with Football Insider revealing (29 May) that Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney set to make a final decision on joining them in the coming weeks.
