Scott McTominay makes transfer decision after Tottenham reveal

Scott McTominay is “in no rush to leave” Napoli after a wondrous start to life in Italy which will rule out a Premier League return in the near future.

The meteoric rise of the Scotsman in the Serie A has caught the attention of English top-flight clubs eager to bring him back to England.

Sources told Football Insider that Tottenham are keen to sign McTominay as Thomas Frank looks to bolster his midfield.

Moreover, the success of the Scotland international in Italy has inspired Kobbie Mainoo who is intrigued by the chance of heading to Napoli to link up with his former teammate in January.

Napoli unwilling to part with McTominay who is ‘highly unlikely’ to return to the Premier League right now

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the former Red Devils academy graduate is relishing life in Naples.

McTominay left Man United for Napoli back in August 2024 and has acquired the immense admiration of the fanbase in Southern Italy through his excellent performances.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast over the likelihood of a return to Old Trafford, or a move to Tottenham, I explained: “I don’t see any move happening for Scott McTominay in the near future.

“As I said, he’s such a vital part of that Napoli side and Napoli will be looking to make progress in the Champions League this season as well.

“To do that, they’re going to have to keep their best there. So I’d say it’s highly unlikely that McTominay will return to the Premier League anytime soon, unless the player himself wants to return to the UK.

“By all accounts, it seems he’s happy with life in Napoli and obviously he’s playing at a very high level as well, so he’s in no rush to leave.”

Scotland teammate Andy Robertson remains in the dark about Liverpool future

With Scotland looking to feature at the World Cup for the first time since 1998, Steve Clarke will be monitoring all his elite players to ensure they are match fit.

Sources told Football Insider that Liverpool want to agree a new deal with Andy Robertson, with the Scotland captain set for a major role should they qualify for the highly-coveted tournament.

However, McTominay’s international teammate is yet to extend his stay at Anfield, bringing into question whether Arne Slot genuinely sees him as part of his long-term plan.

The 31-year-old will be delighted by the form of his compatriot with Napoli, but will also be wanting to have job security by signing a new contract before the end of the season.
