Revealed: Second Man City star wants Spain move after Gundogan deal agreed – sources
Man City star Aymeric Laporte is keen to return to Spain if he is to leave the club this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The 29-year-old could become the second treble-winning City star to make the move to La Liga – with Ilkay Gundogan widely reported to be on the verge of signing for Barcelona on a free transfer.
Laporte’s Man City future is in doubt after limited involvement in the 2022-23 campaign.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month (9 June) that the centre-back will be considered surplus to requirements at the club if they succeed in bringing in a top-class defender in the transfer window.
Josko Gvardiol and Kim Min-jae are two options for Man City with Pep Guardiola very keen to add defensive reinforcements in the off-season.
Laporte is believed to be content in Manchester and will earn a reported wage of £120,000-a-week until June 2025.
He made just 24 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign – starting in 20 of those outings.
Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, and Manuel Akanji have all been preferred in Guardiola’s first-choice XI – while John Stones has been used in a holding midfield role.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (23 June) that Laporte has already rejected an approach from Tottenham.
It is believed he is keen to return to Spain and also wants to continue playing in the Champions League.

The 29-year-old cost a reported club-record fee of £57million in 2018 when Man City signed him from Athletic Club.
Laporte has won five Premier League titles, four League Cups, two FA Cups and a Champions League during his time at the club.
