Revealed: When Vitor Pereira could face Wolves sack amid ‘huge’ verdict

Wolves have endured a disastrous start to the season so far and remain rock bottom of the Premier League ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

Vitor Pereira‘s side lost 2-0 to Sunderland last time out, meaning they are still without a win in the league, and have picked up just two points from eight games.

Despite glimmers of hope after being held to late draws against both Tottenham and Brighton, there is a growing feeling that relegation could be on the cards.

As a result, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Wolves could opt to sack Pereira if they suffer a defeat against Burnley.

However, Pereira signed a new deal at Molinuex last month, and a fresh update has emerged on the board’s stance over his long-term future.

Vitor Pereira told Wolves must win against Burnley

Football Insider revealed on 14 October that Wolves are not considering sacking Pereira as he has credit in the bank from last season’s heroics.

Wolves are keen to stick with the current boss after their show of confidence by handing him a new contract, but are now demanding a turnaround in their form.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, their upcoming clash against Burnley is now a must-win for Wolves and Pereira as losing would mean being cut adrift at the bottom of the table and ultimately result in the manager’s exit.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Obviously it’s been a disappointing start for season for Wolves. They’re rock bottom of the table and yet to pick up a win.

“There will be a concern for Wolves right now if they don’t improve, they could find themselves cut adrift and when that normally happens you see a potential managerial change happening.

“They have got a huge game against Burnley this weekend.

“If Burnley were to go and win that game that would move them eight points clear of Wolves already after just nine games and that will really ramp up the pressure on Vitor Pereira.

“It’s probably a must win for Wolves and for Pereira as they try and get off and running to keep pace with the other teams at the wrong end of the table.”

A defeat against Burnley would see Wolves drop to eight points clear of safety, with Burnley occupying 17th place, amid fears teams around them could collect crucial points.

Jorgen Strand Larsen concerns emerge amid relegation battle

Pereira’s future is not the only immediate concern for Wolves ahead of their clash against Burnley, with concerns lingering about Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Brown told Football Insider on 21 October that Wolves are worried about Strand Larsen’s injury and the impact on his performances during a relegation battle.

This comes after Pereira confirmed [via Wolves’ official website] that the striker has been struggling with a reoccurring achilles injury and is rarely training in between games.

That issue has now become a “major” concern for Wolves as they attempt to balance the risk that they could lose a crucial player against their need to pick up points.

Strand Larsen has yet to score a goal in the Premier League so far this season, and averages 0.5 shots on target per game, further highlighting Wolves’ struggles. [Sofascore]
