Revealed: Wigan Athletic and Peterborough in hunt to sign Arsenal forward Nathan Butler-Oyedeji – sources
Wigan and Peterborough are in the hunt to sign Arsenal striker Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, sources have told Football Insider.
The 20-year-old, who was named on the bench for Mikel Arteta’s side last season, is set to be loaned out so that he can experience regular first-team action next season.
Butler-Oyedeji had his first taste of senior football during a loan spell at Accrington Stanley during the second half of last season – and Arsenal feel he would be best served by another spell in the lower leagues.
Football Insider revealed last month (31 July) that the Gunners have told the forward he can go out on loan before the window shuts next month.
It is believed clubs in Scotland, Belgium, Denmark and in the German 2.Bundesliga have made enquiries about the versatile attacker – who can lead the line and play on both flanks.
Butler-Oyedeji played 11 times for Accrington in his loan earlier this year but failed to find the net as they suffered relegation to League Two.
He is yet to make a senior appearance for Arsenal but was included in a matchday squad on two occasions in the 2022-23 season.
The 5ft 10in youngster has racked up ten goals and five assists across 62 appearances for the Gunners’ Under-21 and Under-18 sides.
He added the latest strike to that tally last week (11 August), when he scored in Arsenal Under-21s’ 3-0 win over West Ham Under-21s in Premier League 2 competition.
Butler-Oyedeji lined up alongside the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, who are also looking to make an impact at senior level this season.
