Rice and Bowen could quit West Ham after ‘really surprising’ development – pundit

Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice could leave West Ham in the summer if the club don’t invest this month.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hammers’ January business.

West Ham are yet to announce a new signing this month despite investment earlier this season.

On 10 November, West Ham announced Czech investment group 1890s holdings, headed up by Daniel Kretinsky, has acquired 27 per cent of the club’s shares.

As a result, Kenny is surprised the Hammers have not invested and warned a lack of signings could lead to the departures of Rice and Bowen.

“We know West Ham need a bit more depth if they are to stay challenging for the top four,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They are doing unbelievable this season but a few additions could help them get even better.

“Bowen is scoring goals but he’s not really a striker, so there still needs to be some backup for Antonio.

“There is also the progression side of things. Bowen and Rice are constantly linked with moves away.

“If they are going to stay, the club needs to properly invest. They have just had some investment, we know that, so let’s see it.

“Show some ambition and bring in some more top quality players. There is no reason West Ham can’t get even better.

“It’s really surprising to me that they haven’t signed anyone.”

The Irons are firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish this season.

They also remain in the Europa League after a near-perfect group stage campaign.
