Richard Keys fires dig at Harry Kane after Bayern Munich disappointment vs Arsenal
Harry Kane is likely to deeply regret his pre-match comments after Bayern Munich were embarrassed by Arsenal in the Champions League.
Mikel Arteta’s side beat Bayern 3-1 to move three points clear at the top of the table, scoring 14 goals and conceding just once in their first five games of the 2025-26 campaign.
PSG beat Tottenham 5-3 to keep up the chase, but the Gunners are slowly opening the gap on their Champions League rivals, with the likes of Liverpool and Man City both slipping up.
Jurrien Timber proved himself worthy of a new contract as he headered home the opener, only for Lennart Karl to cancel out his effort just 10 minutes later.
Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli, however, ensured all three points remained in North London on Wednesday, 26 November, and Kane seemingly went missing during the game.
Bayern Munich star’s comments come back to bite him vs Arsenal
Taking to X (27 November), Richard Keys wrote: “I’m wondering if Harry Kane still thinks standards in the Premier League have slipped?” with a laughing emoji, clearly enjoying the striker’s backfiring comments.
This comes after the Bayern forward spoke about the dropping standards and excitement in the Premier League this season, suggesting that a reliance on set plays is partly to blame [The Times].
Of course, that came across as a clear dig at the Gunners, given that Arteta’s side have netted 10 of their 24 goals from set-pieces in the Premier League this season, but Arsenal fans won’t care.
Their opening goal even came from a set-piece, setting the tone as Timber beat Manuel Neuer to a whipped corner and sent the supporters into jubilation.
Harry Kane’s disappointing return to England in numbers
Playing the full 90 minutes, Kane had 30 touches, zero shots, completed just 50 per cent of his dribbles, was dispossessed twice, and lost three out of his eight ground duels [FotMob].
Supporters will not remember the last time that the England international failed to register a single shot, but that is a testament to how impressive Arteta’s defence was, even without Gabriel Magalhaes.
Arsenal fans were absolutely loving the striker’s lack of impact at the Emirates Stadium, and given his comments before the game, they will feel that justice has been served for the former Tottenham man.
The Gunners will now turn their attention back to the Premier League, with a huge top-of-the-table clash against Chelsea awaiting them at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 30 November.
