Richard Keys: This Everton player will leave when he wants and go where he wants

By Amir Mir

Richard Keys has stated that Everton striker Romelu Lukaku will leave the club “when he wants” because that is “modern football”.

Toffees manager Ronald Koeman urged the 23-year-old to “respect” his contract after he revealed on Tuesday that he would not sign a new deal.

Lukaku is currently the joint top goalscorer in the Premier League with Tottenham ace Harry Kane.

They have both struck 19 goals this term, but Lukaku can go ahead of Kane in the scoring charts at the weekend because he is currently on the sidelines with an injury.

Koeman’s side welcome relegation-threatened Hull City to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon with Lukaku scoring eight goals in his past five home matches.

Nonetheless, former Sky Sports presenter Keys delivered a blunt verdict when responding to Koeman’s comments about his star man.

“Here we go again,” Keys wrote on his personal Twitter account. “Lukaku will leave when he wants and go where he wants. It’s modern football.”

Lukaku moved to Goodison Park from Chelsea during the summer of 2014 for a club record fee of £28million.

Since then, he has been a key figure in the Merseyside club scoring goals and aiming to push for Europe in the past few seasons.

At this moment in time, Koeman has guided his club to seventh in the Premier League table, knowing three points on Saturday will see them overtake sixth-placed Manchester United.

However, Jose Mourinho’s side can reclaim their place if they pick up points away at managerless Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon.

In other Everton news, Mark Lawrenson has predicted the Toffees clash against Hull and claimed Ronald Koeman will sell this player (not Lukaku).
