Richard Masters wants Everton takeover deal to collapse – Kieran Maguire
Premier League CEO Richard Masters will be “happy” if the takeover deal between 777 Partners and Everton collapses this month.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Everton’s takeover deal and Masters’ comments this week.
Masters spoke to politicians over The Football Governance Bill on Tuesday (14 May) about the ongoing takeover deal between 777 and Farhad Moshiri.
It is understood that the US group have been set a deadline of May 31 to complete the deal and meet the conditions previously laid out by the Premier League.
Masters said: “The Premier League’s role in this, as regulator, is to perform the test. It is not to decide who the current owner wants to sell his club to. That is his decision.”
Premier League chiefs ‘happy’ for Everton takeover to collapse
Maguire believes that “everybody in the game” would be pleased if a takeover deal with 777 collapsed this month.
“I think Richard Masters’ comments before the parliamentary committee were measured in the sense that the Premier League cannot force through a sale,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“777 Partners are the people who have been paying the bills recently.
“So as much as the Premier League are probably no longer minded to approve the 777 deal and lay down some fairly stringent conditions with regards to the ownership.

“Ultimately, it’s a private sale between Moshiri and whoever takes over.
“I’m sure everybody in the game, including the Premier League itself and Richard Masters, would be happy if it was another party other than 777.“
