John Arne Riise believes Liverpool’s 1-0 victory against Merseyside rivals Everton is the kind of triumph that wins Premier League titles.

Jurgen Klopp’s side secured all three points deep into injury time, as Daniel Sturridge’s long-range shot hit the post before Sadio Mane tapped in.

Posting on his personal Twitter account, Riise claimed that securing victory late on by the narrowest of margins was a “big sign” and could be the difference between “winning the league”, or falling by the wayside.

In what was a close encounter at Goodison Park, Mane struck his eighth goal of the season to secure all three points against Liverpool’s bitter rivals.

The win takes Liverpool back into second place in the Premier League table, after Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal had pushed them into second on Sunday.

Now on 37 points, Mane’s strike sees Klopp’s side just six points off Antonio Conte’s league leaders Chelsea.

Four points clear of fifth placed Tottenham, the 1-0 win has strengthened Liverpool’s hopes of securing a Champions League slot for just the second time in seven seasons.

Liverpool next face Stoke on December 27 at Anfield, as they look to move to within just one win of Chelsea with all three points against Mark Hughes’ side.

In other Liverpool news, Charlie Adam has had this to say ahead of the clash against Stoke.
