Rio Ferdinand blown away as he responds to confirmed Man United news online

Rio Ferdinand has taken to social media to make his feelings known regarding Amad Diallo’s new contract at Man United.

Diallo, 22, has signed a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2030 with his previous deal expiring at the end of the season.

The forward has shone while his side have struggled throughout the first half of the season, starting 18 of his 28 games across all competitions, scoring six goals, and providing seven assists in his 1699 minutes of action.

Over half of those minutes (908) have come since Ruben Amorim took over in November, scoring three goals and providing five assists in the 12 games under the Portuguese coach.

Amorim has failed to get United firing on all cylinders since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, sitting in 13th with six wins, five draws, nine defeats, and 23 points from their 20 Premier League games.

Amad Diallo gets Rio Ferdinand seal of approval after Man United contract renewal

Speaking on his Youtube channel after the 2-1 Premier League win over Man City, Ferdinand, 46, revealed that many people inside the club weren’t convinced by Diallo.

Ferdinand said: “More than the goal, I just love the character of this kid. He’s a young kid who was brought into the club for a lot of money, there was a lot of interest in him.

“Immediately it felt like, “not for us, not good enough”. People inside and outside the club were thinking, ‘too small, too lightweight, not dynamic or powerful enough for this league.’

“They were thinking, ‘I don’t know what he is, he’s a good footballer but he’s not got it.’”

Ferdinand seems convinced now, taking to Instagram to celebrate Diallo’s new contract, simply responding to Man United’s confirmation by saying: “Boooom.”

United have six games remaining in January alone including crucial Europa League clashes with Rangers and FCSB.

Amorim’s attention will be firmly on domestic affairs for now, however, with his side traveling to Arsenal for their first FA Cup game of the season on Sunday (January 12).
