Rio Ferdinand says which Man United player will be ‘most frustrated man on the planet’

Manchester United have faced a rocky start to their season winning two and losing two of their opening five league games.

Man United beat Chelsea 2-1 on Saturday to give Ruben Amorim some breathing space away from the sack at Old Trafford.

Amorim is at risk of getting sacked by Man United during the October international break, according to reports.

Man United already have replacements for Amorim lined up, but Amorim also has time to turn things around at Old Trafford.

Rio Ferdinand thinks Benjamin Sesko has been hard done by at Man United

There are many issues at Man United, but creating goal-scoring chances isn’t one of them, according to data.

In an interview with talkSPORT, ex-United captain Rio Ferdinand said he thinks new signing Benjamin Sesko still isn’t being helped by his teammates despite the stats.

Ferdinand said: “I look at Sesko and if I was him I’d be the most frustrated man on the planet, if your wingers and wide men aren’t putting the ball in the box for you enough you should be going mad and screaming at them, and I think that’s why I want to see him demanding more from his teammates.”

Ferdinand also spoke about United’s wider goalscoring troubles: “A lot of the data does tell you that they’re getting in the right positions and doing the right things.

“That’s where Man United are falling down and on their knees at the moment, they can’t score enough goals, and if you’re not scoring at any moment in the game, the team are under immense pressure consistently.

“Behind the scenes, I think he’ll [Amorim] be talking with his staff and saying, ‘there’s some positives but we’re not seeing the fruits of it because we aren’t scoring, we can celebrate those positives because we aren’t scoring. It’s covering over all the positives that they’re achieving,” Ferdinand finished.

Data shows Benjamin Sesko hasn’t been helped by his teammates

Sesko has featured in all six of Man United’s opening fixtures in all competitions so far this season, but has yet to get off the mark.

The Slovenian would once have been allowed time to adjust to living in a new country and playing in a new league, but the brutal nature of modern football means Sesko is already under intense scrutiny.

Despite featuring in all six games this season, Sesko has only made three starts, playing just three full games’ worth of football in a United shirt so far.

Across that period, Man United’s teammates have only generated chances that have accumulated 0.4 expected goals (xG) for Sesko, which equates to only 0.17 xG per 90.

For reference, Liverpool have generated 0.68 xG per 90 for Hugo Ekitike since his move from the Bundesliga, while Arsenal have generated 0.51 xG for Viktor Gyokeres.

Compared to the other two high-profile striker moves to the Premier League this season, Sesko has been bereft of creativity in a United side bursting at the seams with players who tend to generate a lot of their own chances.

Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes are United’s best creative talents, yet in games when Sesko has started, they have only created three chances between them.

Sesko will need time to adapt, and his time at RB Leipzig proved that the Slovenian striker is still only a raw talent, so patience will be needed.

Signs of Sesko’s qualities have shone through with his athleticism and ball control on show, and when his teammates begin creating more chances for the former Leipzig man, there’s no doubt he can start scoring regularly.
