Mike Phelan claims that Tottenham will be looking to respond against Hull after their defeat against Manchester United.
Hull manager Phelan believes his side face a difficult match against Spurs ahead of Wednesday’s meeting at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.
The north London club slipped to a 1-0 defeat against United on Sunday and are currently fifth-placed in the Premier League table.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are still regarded as title contenders this season, but they are 10 points behind leaders Chelsea and will be focused on breaking into the top four.
Phelan has praised the qualities of Spurs and warned his Hull side of a backlash on Wednesday night.
“Spurs are a top quality team and never easy to play against,” Phelan said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “The qualities they have are abundantly clear and after their disappointment at the weekend against Manchester United, they’ll want to put on a show for their supporters at home.
“Tottenham are progressing year on year and we’re under no illusion that this will be a difficult game for us.”
Spurs have now lost two games in the Premier League this season and the first was a narrow 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.
Pochettino’s side responded from the Chelsea setback with an emphatic 5-0 victory against Swansea in their next game and will be looking for a similar performance against Hull.
They are just three points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City, who have lost their last two league games against Leicester and Chelsea.
Spurs will be heavy favourites to beat Hull at White Hart Lane as their opponents are currently 19th in the table and without a win in their last four league games.
In other Tottenham news, Pochettino claims that this player must bide his time at the club.
