Confirmed: Rivals make major decision ahead of crucial Tottenham clash
Rochdale have confirmed that they have decided to relay a new pitch at Spotland ahead of their crunch FA Cup clash against Tottenham.
The League One outfit revealed the major plans via their official website after seeing a league clash with Fleetwood Town postponed on Saturday as a result of the condition of the pitch.
There had been concerns about the Greater Manchester club’s pitch after the FA Cup replay against Millwall, which Rochdale won 1-0 in order to set up a tie against the north London giants.
Pictures of a turf lacking any sort of grass in places circulated the media, and it appears as though, following the decision to call off the clash against the Cod Army, work will take place imminently to ensure the new surface is ready for next Sunday’s match against Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Like Rochdale, Tottenham needed a replay to beat Newport County and reach the fifth round of the competition, although following their 1-0 win over north London rivals Arsenal, they still have a crunch clash against Juventus in the Champions League before taking on Keith Hill’s team.
The two club’s have never met in a competitive fixture, and are facing very different fortunes in their respective leagues, with Spurs sitting third prior to Saturday afternoon’s kick offs, while Rochdale are battling relegation as they sit 23rd in England’s third tier.
