Riyad Mahrez could agree Man City move after ‘big’ reveal – pundit

Frank McAvennie has suggested Riyad Mahrez will go abroad if he leaves Man City.

But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Mahrez will be happy with the amount of game time he is getting under Pep Guardiola.

The 31-year-old was in the starting lineup for the Sky Blues against Southampton on Saturday (8 October).

The Algeria international was on the scoresheet in the 4-0 victory.

Speaking to club media (8 October), Guardiola admitted the winger has not hit the heights of last season but insisted he is “getting better”.

Mahrez has made 12 appearances for the Cityzens so far this season and has been in the starting XI for half of those.

He currently has three years remaining on his contract at the Etihad.

When asked if Mahrez could look for the exit door to finish his career elsewhere, McAvennie told Football Insider: “He is 31, he has won the league with Leicester, he has won the league with Man City.

I suppose the money is not coming into it now because he has made that much that he doesn’t have to worry about anything.

He will go abroad. He won’t stay in England I don’t think. Man City are going to dominate for the next few years. It will be them and Liverpool. So unless he goes to Liverpool, which I can’t see happening, I think he might go abroad.

At 31 you will get another three years out of him anyway. Pep is doing a great job, he seems to keep them all happy. It is a big part of life, you have to have a good squad to play that many games. If he starts two or three games a month and he keeps coming on from the bench, he will be happy to stay there.
