Rob Edwards must avoid creating unwanted Premier League history at Wolves
Wolves are hoping that incoming manager Rob Edwards can perform a miracle and keep the Old Gold in the top-flight.
Edwards is close to leaving Middlesbrough to join Wolves and replace Vitor Pereira as the club’s next permanent manager.
Pereira was sacked after the Wanderers’ 3-0 defeat to Fulham on November 1 left them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.
Wolves were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea on Saturday, their ninth loss in 11 matches, giving the incoming boss a mountain to climb.

Wolves on track to become Premier League’s worst-ever team
Under Fosun’s ownership, the Old Gold have flirted with the idea of relegation for years, and 2025/26 could finally be the year when they fall through the trapdoor.
Wolves entered the international break eight points adrift of safety, and worryingly, no side has ever survived in the top-flight after taking two points from 11 matches.
As it stands, the Midlands side have averaged 0.18 points per game, and if that rate continues, they will end the season on just seven points.
Derby County infamously hold the record for the lowest tally in the Premier League era, recording just 11 points during the 2007/08 season (1W, 8D).
Edwards will want to prevent his side from breaking that unwanted record and at least restore some pride across the final six months.

Who are the Premier League’s worst-ever teams?
Derby top the list of the worst-ever Premier League teams, although Southampton came dangerously close to recording fewer than 10 points.
Southampton were relegated with 12 points in 2024/25 after draws against West Ham and Manchester City in the closing stages of the campaign.
| Team (Season) | Points total |
| Derby County (2007/08) | 11 |
| Southampton (2024/25) | 12 |
| Sunderland (2004/05) | 15 |
| Sheffield United (2023/24) | 16 |
| Huddersfield Town (2018/19) | 16 |
| Aston Villa (2015/16) | 17 |
| Sunderland (2002/03) | 19 |
Sunderland’s horrid 2004/05 season puts them third on the list, while Sheffield United were recently relegated with just 16 points in 2024.
Wolves will certainly want to avoid making the above list, but at the very least, total more points than that Derby team.
